Guatemala Projects One of our founding principles is to give back to the villages that produce our coffee and we really do practice what we preach!  In November 2007, in the community of San Jon, we installed a water pump to serve 24 lots where houses will be constructed.

A second water project which began in November 2008, is a water distribution system for Pachitulul, a community situated on the skirt of a volcano on Lake Atitlan.  The people of Pachitulul had no water supply within their village and were hauling water daily from the lake.  Upon completion of this project, water will be available directly to each home in the village through a distribution system which will pump water out of Lake Atitlan into a tank, then to the village through a piping system.  Your purchase of Kapeh Utz coffee will help to fund this important project for the people of Pachitulul!

Kapeh Utz was also excited to be involved in helping families through providing trees.  About 400 fruit trees were given to the people of San Andres Tzanic Ya, a community of families who were displaced by Hurricane Stan in October 2005.  The trees included orange, lime, and two types of guava, all of which are native to Guatemala.  These trees will not only provide families with food, but income as well, as the families will be able to sell fruit at the market.  Additionally, the trees prevent erosion of the soil to help provide a safer environment.

Kansas City Community Projects

Along with giving back to our farming communities in Guatemala, we also believe in supporting our own community right here in Kansas City.  Check back to find photos of us involved in doing good right here in the Midwest!
